Groningen 1946

Doing an image search for “Groningen 1946 tournament” on Google I came across the following, just beneath the Botswana Chess Federation and Mega ChessBase 2013 images:

How Google managed to find this, I’ve no idea!  (Imagine, eight Russians gathered together, and not a chessboard in sight!)

But inspired by the warmer weather, and appreciating the fine photographic qualities, I’ve decided to share the image. It’s just one of the many beautiful photographs that can be found on the author’s site here:

Oh yeah, Groningen 1946, together with USSR-USA Radio Match, were the first major tournaments in Europe after the fall of Berlin.
