Subotica Interzonal – Final Round Reports

[Preliminary – see bye discussion at end]

Here is a little python script processing SCID’s Swiss xtab for the tournament, displaying the pairing and leaderboard for the final few rounds of the Interzonal. Much as you would see posted in the tournament hall (e.g the scores shown in the pairings are those at the start of the round, but note the leaderboard defaults to showing only the top-5):

>>>

The surge by Sax at the end is noteworthy.

The “>>>” is the python prompt, and the rr() commands were typed in by name.

I probably should show the average decisive percentage for the entire tournament in the progressive score table displayed when the script is started. Oh well, put it on the to-do list.  Doing it by hand, the percentage of decisive games, for the entire tournament,  is 60% (72 of 120 games, with 48 draws).

Ah, but beware, some of these 48 draws were byes, and so really shouldn’t count. That means that 2×16 (recall no byes in R6!) of the draws shouldn’t count. So the real decisive percentage is (120-48)/(120-32) = 81.2%. This shows a much harder fought tournament then might have originally been thought.

I will have to go back through my program to ensure my round calculations also correct for byes.
