Breslau (1889) –  6th DSB Chess Congress


18-player RR     July 15th-26th   at Restaurant “Zum Munchener Kinde“⁽¹⁾, Breslau GER.

Time Control:  20 moves/hour⁽²⁾, sealed envelop adjournments.  

Playing sessions:   2 games/day + 1 game/day,  9am- 1pm and 4-8pm sessions.  
                              No play on Sundays. Makeup play done during afternoon sessions, every other day.

Entrance Fee:  25ℳ / 25ℳ deposit     Prizes:  1000ℳ, 700, 500, 300, 150, 120, 100 

Prize Winners:   Tarrasch, Burn, Mieses, ( Bardeleben, Bauer, Gunsberg, Paulsen )   

Special Prize⁽³⁾:   ?ℳ  to Berger, for best score against prize winners.

   (1)  BCM v9 (May 1889) p185/201, and also BCM v9 (Aug 1889) p316/338 in addition to TB.  
          Note the tournament began on 4pm July 14th with reception and drawing of lots, and the play may have finished on the 28th.
          Originally 21 entrants, but Dr. Seger, W. Paulsen and von Scheve all withdrew, and Megter replaced Schottländer due to injury.

          Note that Breslau is modern day Wroclaw, Poland. A political map of Europe (1889) and of German Empire (1871-1918).
