This was an early match – billed as The East vs. West Chess Match, which took place in Dec. 1899 through Jan. 1900 in Chicago, at the wages of $100 / side. The match was first to win seven, draws not counting.
Marshall won 7-6-2.
<CG> will have eventually have all the games, thanks to <MissS> and <Pawn and Two>, although at least one of the games is a stub (G10 – which only published the game up to a Marshall blunder).
(There’s currently no tournament version, but <MissS> has a collection of the games:

While investigating this originally missing game, I found some discrepancies in the dates of the games. While investigating these I found this nice graphic of the players during the match, in the Chicago Tribune 1899-12-31 p19.

Wonder what game/move it’s from?
